Biography
Susana Chiocca has a PhD in Contemporary Art from the Cuenca Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (2016) and a degree in Plastic Arts from the FBAUP (1999).
She is a guest lecturer at the Faculty of Arts and the College of Arts at the University of Coimbra and at Lusófona University.
Since 1999 she has taken part in various exhibitions, events and workshops and has mainly programmed in the area of performance, such as the space a Sala (2006-10) (created with António Lago); the events Estilhaços #1, #2 and #3 and Acesso de Vertigem #1 and #2 (Maus Hábitos 2018-19-21); the event Totetismo Urbano at the invitation of SOOPA, presenting actions in the urban space and À Varanda, a tour of downtown Porto where the performances were presented on the balconies of the artists' houses.
His artistic work has spanned drawing, installation, video, sound, photography and performance. Since 2005 she has been working with text in performance projects in which performance, video and music come together, such as the BITCHO project (2012...), or Balla Prop together with Ana Ulisses (2007-2011).
She has carried out a number of artistic residencies, including: Espaço do Tempo (Montemor-o-Novo), Osso (Caldas da Rainha), Kijkruimte/Steim (Amsterdam), Ghost residency at RE.AL (Lisbon), ZDB 3rd edition residency (Lisbon) and Pépinières Européennes pour Jeunes Artistes (Grenoble).
Highlights include solo exhibitions: Soluços Sussurros Labaredas, espaço Mira, Porto (2023); O regresso à vida do desenho, at Galeria do Sol, Porto (2019); and group exhibitions: Uma cerveja no Inferno, Graça Brandão gallery (2024); Interior fora de si, Pedro Oliveira gallery, Porto (2022); Nella Cohorte di De Chirico, Colégio das Artes, Coimbra (2021); Caos e Ritmo #1, CIAJG, Guimarães (2021); Project Room#2, Galeria de Arte-Banco de Portugal, Leiria (2019).
