Orlando Vieira Francisco (Brazil, 1986) lives and works in Porto. He is a visual artist and an independent social researcher. With a BA Hons. degree in Civil Engineering, he completed a Master's degree in Art and Design for the Public Space in 2014, focusing on the political expressions of crowds in public spaces over the last decade. In 2018, he completed a PhD in Art and Design linked to research in the visual arts on how authoritarian policies manifest themselves in urban infrastructures, symbolic monumentalities or institutional structures. He is a member of The Spatial Cluster research group (that is linked to the European Forum for Advanced Practices) and collaborates in different political action collectives in Portugal, Austria and Brazil. Recently he has been working in the public space through workshops and other self-managed practices. He works within the themes of production of the social space between art and politics, landscape changes and environmental and social activism practices.
